THEME TALK
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put
it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:14-16
The Bible speaks so much about light. Light was God's first creative act specifically mentioned in Genesis 1:3. He showed Himself to the people of Israel as a pillar of fire and commanded them to prepare light in the Tabernacle as part of their worship to Him. God's Presence and His Word are referred to as light in 2 Samuel 22:29 and Psalm 119:105.
In the New Testament, Jesus says, "I am the Light of the world. Those who follow Me will never walk in darkness.
They will have the Light that leads to life." (John 8:12) As followers of Christ, we too are lights in this dark world! With Christ as our Source, He will shine through us to point others to God. What a beautiful picture!
In Kidz Praise, we will discuss light in its various forms: flashlights, candles, the sun, moon, stars, light bulbs, etc. We will see how each of these objects can teach us a spiritual lesson about light. We will share ways we can shine brightly, as well as things that may keep our light dim. There are also lots of great songs that reinforce this theme;
can't wait to share them with the kids this year!
As we set out for a new year in Kidz Praise, let's consider God's words, "Let there be light," and .... GO SHINE!
"This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine."
